Mallorca Property Boosted by Falling Interest Rates

The latest RBS Interest & Exchange Rate Forecast makes gloomy reading in terms of the worldwide economic outlook but at least offers the prospect of greatly reduced interest rates in the months ahead.

As previously reported the rapid decline in world economies, many moving into recession particularly in Europe, has moved the agenda away from concerns of inflation to one fully focused on stimulating flagging economies. In the Eurozone last months half point cut in rates came after a concerted period of near obsession over inflation pressures even though many economists had highlighted that these were always likely to weaken towards the end of 2008 and the main threat was one of recession.

Whatever ones view we are now in a period when global interest rates are on a sharply declining path that should, according to the RBS, see Eurozone rates back down to 2% by mid 2009.

This will offer much needed respite for property owners in Mallorca that have seen mortgage repayments rise sharply over the last 18 months. That said it is important to point out that with most Spanish and Mallorca mortgages on reviewed annually it will take well into 2010 for much of the benefit of falling rates to feed through to the repayments of individual mortgage holders, but at least there is light at the end of the tunnel. In the meantime it is likely that where necessary banks will work with customers most in need to renegotiate mortgage terms and stave off the threat of widespread default.

Regarding exchange rates, some of the hoped for strengthening of Sterling against the Euro, which would have helped boost some extra interest from British buyers of Mallorca property, has fallen away as fears for the UK economy increase. The RBS foresee relative stability in the Euro - Sterling exchange rates in the months ahead with some only modest improvements in the value of the UK currency.

Benefits of Life Insurance Accelerated Death Benefit Riders

As demand rises for life insurance policies, companies are looking for ingenious ways to market policies that favor each customers unique situation. Other than typical mainstream advertising, many life insurance companies are now offering policies that include riders on a policy. One of the most popular riders on a policy is an accelerated death benefit riders. This rider offers substantial benefits to the policyholder.

To put it in perspective, a rider attached to a policy, provides additional coverage that isn't stated in the original contract. Riders can be added to a policy in which may require an extra premium being charged. In some cases, the policy may already have the rider attached.

An accelerated death benefit, is a rider in which a portion of the death benefit of a life insurance contract is payable upon a diagnosis of a chronic, critical or terminally ill patient. The rider will state exactly how much of the death benefit will be available. The death benefits that are to be paid out by the policy, will be reduced by any amounts paid under the accelerated death benefit rider.

It wasn't until the late 1980's when accelerated benefits were installed to assist patients that had contracted the AIDS virus. These benefits allowed the policyholder to collect a portion of their life insurance benefits before they passed away. This helped the policyholder in aid for the payments of hospital and medical bills. Only terminally ill were offered this benefit, but since it's inception, the coverage has included other illnesses that are categorized as chronic, critical or catastrophic as well.

For example, a person purchases a $1,000,000 life insurance policy with an accelerated benefits rider (ABR) attached. The person now becomes a policyholder. The policyholder keeps payments current and sometime down the road, unfortunately contracts a terminal illness. By owning a policy with the ABR, the policyholder can submit a claim to the insurance company for benefits. The policyholder could submit a claim of $1 to $1,000,000. Depending upon the severity, the underwriters of the insurance company will overlook their situation and pay the full claim or offer a lesser amount due to the situation. There are many factors that determine the amount of benefits that are awarded to the policyholder.

The main purpose of the ABR is provide funding for the policyholders medical costs and to assist in extending the policyholders life. If however, the policyholder is awarded living benefits and then passes away, the remaining death benefit is paid to the beneficiary, as with any other life insurance policy.
By having the accelerated benefit riders attached to a policy, the policyholder can divert worries to another aspect of their life. An ABR can help an insurance policyholder in times when they need it most. A person who is terminally ill or unable to work, is one who needs insurance the most. Depending upon the situation, a policyholder may be able to add the rider to their current life insurance policy. Everyone considering purchasing a life insurance policy, should consult their insurance agent about adding an accelerated benefit rider.

Computer Repair : Beep Codes

This is the first in a series of computer repair series, which might come in handy for some crippling problems. So go through it and let me know if it was of any use.

So, your computer won’t start? On top of it, it sends out a beep(s) that seems like an SOS from the Titanic and you are worried that there is a serious problem with your computer.
Agreed, there is definitely a problem, but what is it?

How do you say what is the trouble without contacting the service centre?

When you power on the PC, the BIOS runs a diagnostic test, known as Power-On Self Test (POST). (What the heck is BIOS? BIOS is the acronym for Basic Input/Output System. BIOS is the software that is responsible for loading the operating system e.g. windows, mac etc. The POST is run by the BIOS to ascertain that the hardware is functioning properly).
In case the BIOS encounters an error, and it is unable to access the video card to display the error, it will “beep” out the message.

Beep Codes are the pattern the BIOS follows in order to point out which specific hardware is causing the problem.
These patterns will differ, primarily because of two reasons:

• The type of BIOS (basically three – AMIBIOS, Award BIOS and Phoenix).
• Type of motherboard - Different motherboard manufacturers use slightly customized codes.

Following is a list of AMIBIOS beep codes:

1 Beep : Refresh failure
2 Beeps : Parity error
3 Beeps : Base 64K memory failure
4 Beeps : Timer not operational
5 Beeps : Processor error
6 Beeps : 8042 - gate A20 failure
7 Beeps : Processor exception interrupt error
8 Beeps : Display memory read/write failure
9 Beeps : ROM checksum error
10 Beeps : CMOS shutdown register read/write error
11 Beeps : Cache memory bad

Now, excepting the 8 beep code, almost all other errors are fatal.

So, you know the beep code stuff and you can most probably tell what’s the nature of the problem with your computer. But after that, what?

Lets say you have a memory error and that includes the 1-3 beeps. The possible reasons are that:

1. If it’s a newly updated system, the memory type might not be compatible.
2. The memory might not have been stuck in properly.
3. The memory might have just gone bad.

Out of the above cases, cross-check with your vendor if there is a compatibility issue between the memory and the motherboard.
Then check the slots to make sure that the memory has been put properly in place. Finally if nothing works, get a new memory stick!
There is still one more issue that we didn’t talk about and that is a problem with the motherboard, in which case, you would still get a problem showing that the memory is causing an error whereas the mother board would be the real culprit.

For a 4-beep error, ‘timer nor operational’, one possible reason is that the mother board might be grounded (which is not such a good idea). Just check for any metal parts that might be causing the grounding, else, check if the mother board has been tightened too much. In absence of both, you can refer to your vendor if there is a hardware problem with the motherboard.

A 5-beep error signifies a processor problem. Either there is problem with the processor or motherboard or, there is a compatibility issue between the motherboard and the processor (if it is an assembled one). For starters, you can remove the CPU (please don’t do it if you don’t know how to – refer to a technician!) and reinstall it. If that doesn’t work, check with a new CPU compatible with your motherboard. Finally, check the mother board if there is a problem.

For a 6-beep error, the probable reason might be your keyboard. Check if the system is working with another keyboard. If that doesn’t work, reinstall the keyboard controller chip and if the problem persists, replace it. Check if the system is working with another keyboard.

(For a 5, 7 or 10-beep error, refer to the 4-beep error.)

For an 8-beep error, most probably, the video card memory is at fault, or some other part on the video card. Else, an incompatibility between the video card and the motherboard could be a problem.

A 9-beep error is a signal that the BIOS chip is at fault, which is a pretty serious problem and the motherboard parts/whole motherboard needs to be replaced for that.

(The above analysis is just for the AMIBIOS. However, for the same problem, only the mode of indication is different for different BIOS.)

Designer Jewellery

As with designer perfumes, the scarily glamorous world of designer jewellery is one I often shy away from. It is a strange, golden world of money, style and confidence - none of which I possess in any great amount. I envy the ability of all these fashionable types to sport a fabulous piece of jewellery such aplomb, when I feel brave for simply changing watches every blue moon.
But, with the New Year comes another London Fashion Week, and this gives me the chance to expand on my lacklustre knowledge of what's hot and what's not in the land of accessories. An easy and painless way for me to start is with Tatty Devine, whose colourful website alone rouses a girly excitement in me. These guys were brought to my attention by a friend who, having noticed my awe at her Tatty Devine name necklace, bought me my very own (with my name rather than hers, obviously) for my birthday. The fun union of bold colours and 1950s styles carves them a nice little niche in the jewellery market, and one that I don't feel quite so nervous about embracing.
For those who like to be more traditional about their jewellery-wearing, Alex Monroe appears to be a consistently good bet. There is a great deal of elegance in his pieces, capturing beautiful images of nature and making them chic to wear. He also makes gold classy rather than gaudy, something which impresses an ardent silver-lover like me. Similarly, Eleanor Ford shows that you don't have to use shock tactics to be an appealing designer jeweller in the 21st century; drawing on fashions throughout history, she creates styles which will charm people of all ages.
LFW has always been a superb vehicle for showing off the talents of exciting eccentrics. Particularly noteworthy are Comfort Station and Super Fertile. The former's name may be slightly misleading, as there is a hint of darkness amongst some of the pieces (for example, earrings with tiny working pairs of scissors on them). However, there can be no denying the sheer sexiness of it. Super Fertile works on a more political level; simultaneously producing inventive jewellery whilst raising awareness of world issues is nothing to be sniffed at.
Personally I don't think I'm anywhere near courageous enough to wear designer jewellery [http://www.jewellerygossip.com/] or generally bold creations, but the ideas behind the eccentric styles are hugely admirable. In fact, even the relative accessibility of the other designers I've mentioned probably won't stir me into being a huge jewellery enthusiast. However, my eyes are now open to the variety of wearable art that exists. Perhaps one day I will do myself a favour and adorn myself with something a little bit more wonderful than something from Claire's Accessories.
